Program Description

The Ellington School has openings for 39 students. The Tolland School has openings for 47 students. Students are placed into small multi-age preschool groups or a preK/ kindergarten group. The preK/Kindergarten program has a separate space and program. Our organized program is from 8:45am to 3:45pm with free play before and after for all children.

PSA offers great depth in the rich curriculum they present to the children enrolled in the school.  Music is taught every day by a music specialist, an art specialist delivers an art program regularly and a professional dancer and dance instructor teaches a movement class for all children on a weekly basis.   There is no extra charge for any of these programs as it is part of the enriching curriculum presented at Preschool of the Arts.

Our program is divided into three major areas:

  • Creative Arts: Music / Drama / Art / Creative Movement
  • Play Time: Free Play / Outdoor Play / Games / Physical Exercise
  • Discovery Activities: Math / Science / Social Studies / Show & Tell/Cooking / Literature
  • Snacks are provided and are selected and prepared to be both nutritious and enjoyable for the children.

Rest/Quiet Time, is provided for Preschoolers for approximately one hour, as per the requirements of the State of Connecticut. A rest/quiet time for PreK/Kindergarten students allows children sufficient rest and a break from activities.

Field trips are generally taken during the summer program. The Kindergarten and School-age children may take field trips during the school year. Walking trips are taken during the school year to such places as the fire station, library, hardware store, and Post Office to name a few.

Concerts and our own Art "Gallery" are scheduled three times a year so that our students can show what they have learned. Our concerts are usually held in the halls of local churches.
